New Delhi – A wave of protests has gripped northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura neighborhood following the alleged gang-rape of a six-year-old girl. Authorities confirmed on Thursday that three minors aged 13, 14, and 15 have been detained in connection with the assault.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, the incident occurred earlier this month, with the victim's family filing a formal complaint on January 18. The girl's mother recounted the harrowing moment her daughter returned home in a distressed state, covered in blood.

"She first said she had fallen, but there were no injuries on any other part of her body," the mother told reporters. "On questioning further, she told me what had been done to her."

The victim alleged that the three boys, who lived in the same locality and worked in a nearby factory, lured her to the terrace of a building where the crime was committed. In a notable turn of events, the mother of one of the accused reportedly handed her own son over to the police after witnessing the victim’s condition.

Legal Action and Community Outrage

Senior police officer Ashish Mishra stated that the three juveniles have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The suspects have since been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

While police maintain they "swung into action immediately," local residents have expressed frustration over the pace of the investigation. For the past four days, Bhajanpura has seen consistent street protests, with community members demanding swifter justice and heightened security.

Current Status of the Victim

The six-year-old has undergone a medical examination and has had her statement officially recorded. Police confirmed she is currently receiving specialized counseling and medical care to assist in her recovery from the trauma. Investigators are currently scanning CCTV footage from the area to corroborate the sequence of events.
